Indiana Jones is coming back swinging into cinemas, and filming is underway.
The fifth and final installment of the Indiana Jones franchise has begun production in the UK, having previously been stuck in developmental hell since 2008.
Since its beginnings, it has changed release date on numerous occasions, lost Steven Spielberg as a director and seen its scriptwriter leave the project, but it looks like we’re back in action.
Here’s everything we know about the untitled fifth Indiana Jones film so far.
Where is it being filmed?
Harrison Ford has been pictured in his iconic brown hat and jacket – but no bullwhip just yet – as production began in Grosmont in North Yorkshire last week.
No official pictures from the set have been released, but fans snapped Ford, 78, taking a break from filming with his face mask firmly on.
Meanwhile, tanks and World War Two vehicles were also pictured, with Yorkshire Live reporting that one scene involves an escape from a Nazi prison camp.
Scenes have been shot on location at Bamburgh Castle and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, while the film will also be shot at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire.

Who is in the cast?
Harrison Ford is back to play everyone’s favourite archaeologist, and there are some big names joining him in the cast.
Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Casino Royale villain Mads Mikkelsen have joined the cast, as well as Marvel’s Thomas Kretschmann, Narcos star Boyd Holbrook and Black Panther actress Shaunette Renée Wilson.
Mikkelsen told Collider of the film: ‘I’m very, very excited about it… I rewatched Raiders of the Lost Ark the other day, it is so well-done and so charming, and it’s such great storytelling. So yes it’s a great honour to be part of that franchise that I grew up with…
‘I’m in a lucky position where they let me read the script before. And yes, it was everything I wished it to be, so that was just great.’
Logan’s James Mangold will co-write and direct, taking over from Spielberg who has directed all four of Indy’s big-screen outings so far – most recently 2008’s Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
When is it out?
Indiana Jones 5 was originally slated for release in July 2019, but was pushed back until 2020, in favour of The Lion King remake, and then 2021 – but the Covid-19 pandemic ended those hopes, too.
Now, it is scheduled for release on July 29, 2022.
