Rachel Zegler shut down critics after she was cast in Disney’s live-action remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
The West Side Story star, who is of Columbian and Polish descent, was confirmed for the role on Tuesday, and celebrated the announcement on social media, screaming: ‘I HAVE MANIFESTED MY ENTIRE LIFE I THINK I THINK.’
However, the 20-year-old was forced to hit back at those who were unimpressed by the move, and the decision to include a Latina Snow White.
Having precisely none of it, she penned a now-deleted tweet aimed at the detractors, fuming: ‘Yes I am Snow White no I am not bleaching my skin for the role’.
Despite the post, the reaction to Rachel’s role has been mostly positive, with fans sharing their delight on Twitter.
‘My favourite upcoming, HISPANIC, actress is playing my favourite princess,’ a follower commented.
‘Congrats!!! I just KNOW you’re going to kill it as the OG Disney princess,’ another suggested.
One yelled: ‘I CANT BELIEVE IT OMG YES RACHEL REAL LIFE DISNEY PRINCESS OHMYGOD.’
As a Twitter user added: ‘Seeing @rachelzegler sing In my Life from Les Mis is the reassurance EVERYONE needs that she’s our perfect Snow White.’
Showing just how much she had been preparing for the role, Rachel also posted a video on Twitter as she twirled her skirt beside a Snow White actress.
It was announced that the Shazam! actress had been cast as the Disney princess yesterday, with director Marc Webb heaping praise on her talent.
‘Rachel’s extraordinary vocal abilities are just the beginning of her gifts,’ he said in a statement, via Variety.
‘Her strength, intelligence and optimism will become an integral part of rediscovering the joy in this classic Disney fairytale.’
Marc Platt will be producing the remake, with Benj Pasek and Justin Paul tasked with writing new music.
Production is expected to begin next year, with no release date announced.
