Despite being one of the noughties’ most beloved and fancied leading men on The OC, Adam Brody ‘can’t bear’ to watch himself as Seth Cohen.
The 41-year-old played the comic book loving nerd Seth in four seasons of the iconic teen drama, which aired between 2003 and 2007.
However, he can’t watch himself on The OC for a bizarre reason relating to his Mr and Mrs Smith co-star Vince Vaughn.
Speaking on Justin Long’s podcast Life Is Short, Adam said: ‘Despite any confidence I had, I can’t bear to watch any of The OC.
‘Vince Vaughn was my acting hero. To the point where I [was] doing a terrible imitation of him… for most of my twenties.
‘The OC is me doing a chipmunk Vince Vaughn. Even though I’m mid-twenties, it sounds like I’m going through puberty still… I just watch it now and I’m like, “Settle down.”’

Adam has now ‘knocked off’ trying to imitate the Dodgeball actor on screen, adding: ‘A lot of my acting, for better and worse, in my twenties is due to him.’
Post The OC, Adam turned to a full time film career, starring in movies including Jennifer’s Body, Scream 4, Shazam!, The Kid Detective and Promising Young Woman.
However, his breakout role was most definitely in The OC, and on the podcast, he discussed the strange nature of being in a ‘bubble’ pre-social media on one of the biggest shows on television.
He said: ‘Honestly, we were in such a bubble. It was pre-social media. We’re filming down in Manhattan Beach. It wasn’t like I had 20 million Twitter followers or whatever. I was, like, dating my costar… We were just in a 30-person social bubble.

‘Yes, we got more famous, but I was living in Hollywood, I wasn’t around that many places… I felt, like, at once, “Oh, my god, I have all these opportunities all of the sudden.” Then I’m seeing movies and I’m getting cool meetings. But we filmed that show, like, nine and a half months a year. There wasn’t much time to capitalise on it, really.’
While on The OC, Adam was dating Rachel Bilson, who played Seth’s girlfriend Summer Roberts on the show, but they split in 2006.
Adam is now married to another member of teen TV royalty, Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester, having tied the knot in 2014.
The couple welcomed their second child during lockdown.
Meanwhile, Rachel Bilson has recently launched a podcast, Welcome To The OC B****es, with her former co-star Melinda Clarke, who played Julie Cooper on the show.
The pair recap episodes from The OC while speaking to cast and crew members about their memories of the show.
The OC is available to stream on All4.
