I secretly battled postnatal depression and felt like Brody wasn’t MY baby, says Towie’s Georgia Kousoulou

TOWIE star Georgia Kousoulou has revealed her secret battle with postnatal deperession.

The reality star, who is mum to Brody, one, struggled with her mental health after she didn’t feel an immediate ‘uncontrollable’ love for her newborn.

Georgia Kousoulou admitted she didn’t immediately bond with baby son Brody

Speaking to OK!, she said: “I didn’t get that overwhelming feeling of love from the moment I first held him that everyone speaks about. I was looking at this baby like, ‘Is this mine?’ It took me a while.

“It was love at first sight visually, but emotionally I didn’t have that uncontrollable love and when I didn’t get it straight away it really stressed me out. It upset me for ages and sent me into a dark place.”

Georgia kept her feelings bottled up and felt ashamed about the lack of connection between mother and baby.

She would sneak away from family to cry in the bathroom and felt isolated, with no light at the end of the tunnel.

Her fiancé Tommy noticed things weren’t right and staged an intervention with both of their mums and their midwife.

The emotional meeting came as a relief to Georgia as she finally shared her feelings and felt the burden fall from her shoulders.

She said: “I think it’s so important for women not to say to other women that the minute you hold your baby you’re going to get this feeling you’ve never felt before. Actually, you don’t always feel that way and if you don’t, that’s OK. It takes time. We don’t know these little humans that we’ve just been given.”

Initially Georgia had planned for a water birth but a series of complications through the pregnancy led her to opt for a C-section.

While it helped her relax ahead of the delivery, afterwards Georgia admitted she didn’t feel like she’d given birth.

Georgia hopes that by talking about her experience other women won’t have to suffer in silence like she did.

She was also full of praise for her fan base, many of who were there for her on social media during her low moments.
