Love Island star Wes Nelson insisted it’s ‘fine’ for the castmates to have sex in the villa as he gave advice to the new contestants.

He also shared how he didn’t think getting hot and heavy under the sheets with both Laura Anderson and Megan Barton Hanson hurt his reputation or career trajectory afterwards.

The 23-year-old was laid back but firm in his advice for the show’s new cast, who are currently quarantining in Spain ahead of the June 28 launch date, as he insisted that having a ‘game plan’ over having ‘fun’ was what would get them kicked out the villa sooner rather than later.

During an interview with Stephen Leng on FUBAR Radio, Wes came out in disagreement with his fellow Love Island alumni who had advised new Islanders to avoid having sex on the show.

He exclaimed: ‘I did it and I was fine! This is the thing. People can say, “Don’t do this, don’t do that!” There’s no dos or don’ts. Just do you. It’s literally that simple.’

Wes, who has since become a millionaire following his time on the programme, was pretty confident it was his decision to have fun – and all that entails – over being tactical that had brought him his success.

‘The reason I think I’ve done well and come out and been reflected in a nice way is because I actually was honest. I was honest with myself, I didn’t go in with a game plan. I went in there for what it is, which is fun,’ he continued.

When talking about those who use their time on the show to launch a career, Wes was pretty blunt: ‘Nine times out of ten, they’re the people that come out within a week because they’ve got this game plan and people see straight through it.’

Harking back to the light-hearted premise of the show, the musician added: ‘Just go in there, have fun! If something comes of it, something comes of it. If you meet someone, you meet someone and if you don’t, you don’t.

‘But I think just go on it and have fun and be unapologetically yourself. And people will start to like you.’

The 2018 finalist also recently joined calls for a more inclusive cast of Love Island.

Speaking to, he said: It’s important for that to happen in today’s society, it’s got to be accepting of everything, and it’s got to be diverse.’

Wes, who described himself as ‘still just as bloke from Stoke’ said he hadn’t been changed by the show, even if his life had.

‘I think circumstances have changed, but I haven’t,’ he said, ‘And it’s good to keep things that way, to stay true to who you are.’

The former nuclear engineer has since started a music career, which saw his debut single See Nobody peak at number three in the UK charts in October last year.
