Candiace Dillard has opened up on how husband Chris Bassett has handled the explosive drama on the current series of Real Housewives of Potomac.
The lovebirds found their marriage firmly in the spotlight at the beginning of season seven, after Gizelle Bryant accused the chef of making her feel ‘completely uncomfortable’ during an unaired private conversation, which she claimed took place backstage at the last reunion.
The Reasonably Shady podcast host made her feelings known to the budding musician, who quickly spoke out in defense of her partner and broke the fourth wall in heated scenes, insisting that she wasn’t happy with him being ‘maligned’ for the sake of a RHOP ‘storyline’.
She was also forced to contend with co-star Ashley Darby, who claimed that Chris had messaged her on Instagram after a night out – but it was later revealed that he had simply invited her and a friend to the restaurant he works at.
Speaking about how the pair have managed the drama thrown their way in a new interview, Candiace admitted that her beau had found it tough at times because of the claims.
‘He’s better now. He was not well. As Dorinda [Medley] would say, “Not well, b***h,”’ she said. ‘He was not well for quite a while. It was a mind eff for him to have this picture painted of him because that’s what Gizelle did.

‘She painted a picture of him that didn’t belong to him. She created a narrative that was completely false and damaging and hurtful.
‘We were blown away at the number of messages and comments of people that were calling BS and saying that they didn’t believe it. But there’s always that 0.5 percent that says, “Oh, he did it,” or whatever they say.
‘There are headlines that will live on the internet that insinuate that my husband is a predator, and you can’t undo that. And that’s why it’s so damaging for people to be able to make things up.
‘It’s hurtful, and he was very hurt by it.’

Candiace joined the Bravo series at the beginning of series three, which aired in 2018, letting the cameras into her wedding to Chris, as well as their family and work drama.
Discussing her future in Potomac, the Drive Back star vowed that she will not be leaving the series until she stops ‘having fun’.
‘This is a conversation that we have a lot in my house,’ she added on Page Six’s Virtual Reali-Tea podcast. ‘So when I came on to this platform, my goal was to use this platform to get to where I am. It’s working, my evil plan is working.
‘For as long as I am having fun on Housewives, which very much was tested in Season 7, I will be here.
‘I like a few of my castmates on most days, so it’s still worth it. It’s still a fun time. I’m here until I’m not, or until they fire me. Whichever comes first.’
