The Apprentice has been a staple on our TV screens since 2005, when Lord Sugar put the first load of candidates through their paces – and first uttered those infamous words ‘You’re fired’ in the boardroom.

While contestants originally showed off their business acumen in a bid to win a job with the mogul, these days it’s all about winning his backing for their businesses, to the tune of £250,000 investment.

We’ve seen some memorable characters pass through the boardroom over the years – several of whom have gone on to greater successes with Lord Sugar’s help.

And the latest series of the show, with 18 brand new candidates aiming to win the mogul’s backing, kicks off tonight (January 5).

They’ve all made it to the programme after going through the application process – but if you fancy your chances as a future candidate, how can you apply to take part?

We’ve got all the information you need.

How can you apply to be on The Apprentice?

If you want to try your luck on the BBC show, the good news is that applications for series 18 are now open.

You can find the form on the show’s official website – but you’ll have to get in quick, as the closing date for applications is Sunday, January 29, 2022.

For series 18, applicants need to be aged 18 or over and legally entitled to work in the UK without restriction.

As certain tasks could potentially be filmed overseas, you may also be required to be fully vaccinated – unless you have a medical exemption – to be considered for the show.

Applicants are also asked to upload a photo and video of themselves, as well as confirm they have the right to live and work in the UK.

For series 18, there’s more than just an online form to the selection process.

If you passed the application stage, you’d attend initial meetings, followed by another round of interviews, before reaching the final stage.

Anyone who is successful in applying for a future show will need to make sure they’re available for a certain length of time for filming – which could be as long as 13 weeks, depending on how far they get in the process.

That could include taking time off work, so you’ll need to be certain you’re able to do this.

Filming dates will vary for future shows, but series 17 – the latest – was shot between March 28 and June 26.

The Apprentice 2023 starts tonight on BBC One at 9pm.
