IF YOU’RE a lover of a loofah, then we’re here to tell you to think twice about reaching for yours the next time you’re in the shower.
While it’s usually a go-to for having a good scrub in the shower, one Derm Doctor has revealed why we should all stop using loofahs pronto.

TikTok user Dr Charles MD (@drcharlesmd1) is known for debunking skin care myths online and not only does he think having a loofah is “unnecessary”, but he explains it’s actually a lot dirtier than you think.
In a skincare item haul in his local supermarket, Dr Charles revealed the three things he suggests avoiding, with a loofah being number one on his list.
“Loofah = bag of bacteria,” he explained, as he also dished that washcloths are also “kinda GROSS” and revealed that just using your hands to wash your face and body is probably the better option.
He also suggested ditching hard sponges as he explained they can lead to “small skin breaks” while washing.

His revelation left people divided and some outraged, as over 180k viewed the video and thousands commented on the post.
Many were convinced that just using their hands was not the best option going forward.
One shocked person posted: “MY HANDS???!”
“Well I need to EXFOLIATE what am I supposed to use,” said another.

Others commented that they regularly “switch out” their washcloths and loofahs to prevent bacteria build-up, as they refused to wash with their hands only.
“I use a clean washcloth every day. Are…. are people re-using them?” questioned one person, while a fourth wrote: “I know he didn’t tell me to just use my hands…”
When one person asked whether a “natural loofah” was better to use, Dr Charles replied: “Hmm those are usually pretty harsh and actually not necessary,” and again insisted: “Why not just use your hands?”
One confused viewer said: “Hold up. For years people have told me that I’m weird for only using my hands. And now you’re telling me I’m RIGHT???”
Some were all for the video, as one person responded: “I KNEW ITTTTTT I ALWAYS STUCK BY HANDS.”
One more agreed: “I never used any of them my whole life and I never will.”
