Naturally, Kate Middleton and Prince William reportedly had a few options when they were expecting their first baby back in 2013.

But while they settled on the name George for their son, it turns out their eldest child could have been named something completely different.

According to Vanity Fair, the then first-time parents didn’t want to find out the sex of their baby.

Shortly after Prince George was born, royal correspondent Katie Nicholl wrote: “Courtiers insisted the pair had not found out the sex of their unborn baby, and friends close to the couple claim William wanted a surprise.”

The expert claims Kate had an inkling it was a boy and “had her heart set on the name Alexander.”

However, the proud parents reportedly only decided to call their new baby George after he arrived.

The eldest Cambridge child shares his name with The Queen‘s late father King George XI and grandfather George V while Alexander went on to become one of Prince George’s second names instead.

Prince George’s full name is George Alexander Louis – which he shares with his younger brother, Prince Louis.

What’s more, one of The Queen’s middle names is also Alexandra – which led royal fans to make £60,000 worth of bets predicting Kate would name her firstborn Alexandra if it was a girl, The Telegraph reports.
