The oversized blazer is officially a trend.
Just look at off-duty models, Hayley Bieber, and all the fashion editors finally venturing out of the house.
On top of mini dresses, biker shorts, or cropped tees, there’s one outerwear option that reigns supreme: a big blazer.
While for many of us, a blazer brings back memories of school uniform, there’s no avoiding it any longer.
And with so many ways to style it, a great blazer is quickly becoming a style staple.
So, how do you wear a blazer in a way that doesn’t feel like a day in sixth form or your first ever job interview?
It’s easy, don’t panic.

The fit, firstly, is key. This is not a fitted jacket, nipped in at the waist and finishing above the bum. The 2021 blazer is slightly longline, androgynous, and slightly big on the shoulders.
It should look like you’ve borrowed a guy’s blazer the morning after a big night and slung it over an outfit with minimal thought.
Next, is what you wear it over.

The good news is you’ve got plenty of options.
For daytime, try it with a band tee and biker shorts for that celeb street style vibe. The goal is to mix a work-y blazer with pieces that don’t feel too office-ready: think sportswear, beaten up tees, cropped tops, torn-up jeans.
The same vibe goes for the evening, when your oversized blazer becomes the star of the show. Wear it on top of a teeny-tiny bodycon dresses (a 90s slip style works brilliantly), button it up, and finish the look with heels to make your legs look miles long.

If you do want to smarten things up, the blazer functions as a great layering piece. Chuck it on over a grey rollneck jumper and black leather trousers.
In terms of colour, neutrals, black, and grey are a safe starting point, but feel free to go wild once your confidence levels are up: prints and candy-bright colours look pretty glorious, too.
So that’s how to wear your oversized blazer this season. But which one should you buy? We’ve got you covered…
