What time is the Covid vaccine announcement today, Wednesday, June 23?

Nadhim Zahawi will begin his Covid press briefing later today.

Downing Street confirmed the conference would kick off at 5pm, with viewers able to tune in on TV and online.

What is Nadhim Zahawi expected to say?

This evening’s briefing comes ahead of a crunch announcement on Monday when Boris Johnson will decide whether to unlock early on July 5.

He previously delayed the June 21 ‘Freedom Day’ over fears surrounding the rapidly spreading Delta variant, which was first identified in India.

The Government is rallying unvaccinated adults to book their slots to give the PM the best chance of ending lockdown on July 19.

Mr Zahawi – who is fronting his first press conference since the pandemic began – regularly bangs the drum for people to get the jab on the airwaves.

He has been especially vocal in encouraging ethnic minority communities to get vaccinated amid fears of low uptake rates.

Tonight he is likely to continue to urge Brits to take up the offer of vaccines now that slots have been made available to all over-18s.

Mr Zahawi is also expected to give viewers the latest vaccination statistics, which most recently revealed that a whopping 74,638,083 have administered across the UK.

No full update was provided yesterday due to an “IT issue”, so only updates from Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales were included.

More than 82 per cent of the UK adult population has receive one dose of the jab, while more than 60 per cent has had a second.

He may also reveal details of plans to let fully vaccinated Brits skip quarantine when travelling abroad.

The PM and Health Secretary have both confirmed they are looking at the idea in a huge boost for holidaymakers longing for a post-pandemic getaway.
