Nudging Hertfordshire to the north and the built-up Hendon to the south, Mill Hill is a large, leafy and affluent suburb.

It has good transport links, with access to the M1 at Fiveways Corner, and the A41 and A1 run through it.

There are three distinct neighbourhoods. Mill Hill Village is the oldest, greenest and most rural, while the Broadway rates highly for convenience, encompassing the high street and Thameslink station.

Mill Hill East, around the Northern Line Tube station, is expanding fast as a new residential quarter is being created at Millbrook Park on the former Inglis Barracks site.

What’s on offer

Buyers can pick from a medley of architectural styles, particularly in the Village – which contains charming period cottages and one-off, wow-factor, glitzy abodes.

There are also Victorian terraces, interwar semis and new luxury flats.

‘We see lots of young families who are attracted by the network of good schools and want to find the right home early when their children are only one or two years old, and first-time buyers who’ve often grown up locally,’ says James Goldsobel of estate agents Richard James.

‘Flats start from £300,000 and three or four-bed houses are £600,000-plus.’

What’s new?

When complete, Millbrook Park will consist of more than 2,200 homes, delivered by a number of housebuilders.

No 1 Millbrook Park, from Joseph Homes, has sweeping views over the London skyline.

The high-ceilinged one and two-bed apartments start at £399,995.

Barratt London is creating 345 apartments and houses, all with private outside space and parking.

One and two-beds are currently available, from £424,000.

EcoWorld London’s The Claves is a collection of one to four-bed homes, with on-site gym, from £425,000 for a one-bed flat.
