Durdle door plunge – Daughter ‘absolutely devastated’ after seeing mum fall 150ft on beach shortcut on family holiday

A DAUGHTER is “absolutely devastated” after witnessing her mother fall 150ft to her death while taking a shortcut on a beach family holiday, a pal said today.

Mother-of-five Tahira Jabeen, who was in her 40s, fell from the perilous cliffs that form part of the famous Durdle Door landmark on the Dorset coast.

She was heard to shout out “I’m coming down” before she lost her footing on loose rocks and plunged.

She worked as a project adviser for one of the country’s leading social research and behavioural insights consultancies, MEL Research in Birmingham, West Mids.

Shocked work pals have paid tribute to her as “a wonderful lady with a heart of gold” and “caring and jolly and always smiling.”

Her boss said: “It is a tragedy and we all feel deeply upset for her family. Her daughter was with her at the time and is absolutely devastated.

“She was taken to hospital but I am not sure if she is still there or not.

“One of my colleagues has been in contact with her family. It is all very raw and they feel too upset to talk about it.

“I believe she had gone away with one of her daughters who is in her 20s. They were having a holiday together. She witnessed what happened.”

She added: “Tahira was a contact adviser, known as a tracer, on one of our projects and she had been working here for 13 months. 

“I am her boss and with her colleagues feel very upset.”

Tahira from Birminghams is said to have been had been attempting to take a “short cut” to the beach has while walking in Durdle Door, near Lulworth, on Monday afternoon.

She was heard to shout “I’m coming down” at the busy popular tourist spot before losing her footing and plunging to her death to Man O’ War Beach below.

Her daughter was treated for shock at the scene by ambulance crews.

Dorset Police have confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious.

Tahira’s work colleague Azmah has set up a JustGiving fund raiser to help support her five girls. So far nearly £3,000 of a £4,000 target has been raised.

Azmah posted: “She was a treasured member of our team. It is a great loss to MEL Research to have lost an outstanding employee.

She described her as a “caring and jolly person who lost her life in such a tragic accident,” adding she was a “much loved and missed wonderful lady with a heart of gold and always happy and smiling.”

She said she leaves behind “five beautiful girls who will not be able to replace her.”
