Bosses at a holiday park have apologised to furious guests for cancelling Bingo to show England in the Euros.

Several holidaymakers at the Haven-run Doniford Bay Holiday Park turned up for their favourite game, which was due to be held in the main entertainment room.

But they were left angry after the Bingo was replaced by a screening of the opening Three Lions game against Croatia.

The incident prompted an angry TripAdvisor review from one user who left a day early in disgust and said many others were also disappointed at the unscheduled switch.

Haven said they won’t make the same mistake again and will stick to Bingo, showing no more football during the tournament.

The initial review of the resort, near Watchet, Somerset, was left on Monday, June 14 — the day after Gareth Southgate’s men beat Croatia 1-0.

The reviewer said: ‘I was very disappointed today (Sunday). We are booked till Monday but going home tonight. I said we will set off after Bingo and the seaside squad, but disappointed that Bingo WASN’T on and the venue (live lounge) had football on.

‘We wasn’t [sic] the only ones, There were quite a few people going in for the Bingo to be told it wasn’t on because of the football.

‘The entertainment team is much better than last year, not to [sic] keen on the guy that says he’s the entertainment manager, I found him a bit rude not very approachable and not very professional looking.’

Haven has responded to the review and has thanked the family for their feedback.

It said in a statement on TripAdvisor: ‘With regards to the entertainment, I apologise that activities were cancelled due to the football. We are now not showing any of the football so it does not interfere with our scheduled activities.’

The incident led to some sympathy from local residents about the clash.

One said: ‘If i had sat down with my markers and cards ready to go and then some Bluecoat comes along and tells me Bingo was cancelled I would be upset as well.’

Another said: ‘They should have just moved the football to another room.’
