As the reality of 2023 sets in, it may seem like a long twelve months ahead of you.
Perhaps it might be fun to leave a little musical present for yourself to discover all the way in January 2024.
Which is exactly the thinking behind Spotify’s new feature, Playlist in a Bottle.
The audio time capsule lets you seal away a selection of songs of your choosing. It’ll be locked away until next January, when you’ll be able to open it up and listen.
This could be a great way to remind your future self of songs they’ve forgotten about or, alternatively, shock them with your 2022 taste in tunes.
It’s really easy to set up a Playlist in a Bottle, just follow these steps:
On your smartphone, tap on this link to be taken through to the Spotify app.
Next, you’ll be presented with a choice of which kind of time capsule you’d like to seal your playlist in. Tap the arrows to switch between the choices.
And don’t worry, whatever you choose is purely for fun and won’t make a difference to your playlist.

Once you’ve chosen your capsule, you’ll be prompted to add at least three songs by typing them in.
For example, you’ll be asked to add a song ‘you need to hear live in 2023’.

You can tap ‘Keep Going’ to add more songs or ‘I’m Done’ if you’re finished.
When you’re happy with your songs, tap ‘Lock In’ to seal it away for the next year. Be warned: you only get one Playlist in a Bottle so make sure you’re happy with it before you lock it away.
You’re can now forget about it until next January, when Spotify will automatically remind you to open it and have a listen.
