London: ‘Football fan’ arrested after fall from fourth floor of hotel

A man believed to be a Scotland supporter was Tasered and arrested after plunging from the fourth floor of a London hotel.

Police were called last night over reports of a guest ‘throwing items from a window’.

By the time officers arrived, he had tumbled from height at the hotel near Hyde Park. Fortunately, his fall was broken and he mostly suffered injuries to his hands.

Two officers were injured as the man fell and he was stunned with a Taser and detained.

He was taken to hospital but was taken into custody after being discharged.

Police were alerted towards the end of the England vs Scotland Euro 2020 clash at Wembley on a riotous night which saw dozens of supporters arrested in the streets.

In a series of tweets, Westminster Police said: ‘We were called at around 9.40pm on Friday to a man throwing items from the window of a hotel in Lancaster Gate, W2. It was also reported that the man had injuries to his hands.

‘Officers attended the location and detained a 27yo man after he fell from a window. He was arrested on suspicion of affray.

‘The man has been taken to hospital for treatment. His condition is not believed to be life-threatening.

‘The man fell from a 4th floor window. We believe his fall was broken by structures at a lower level.

‘Two officers were injured detaining the man; a Taser was discharged.

‘He was not seriously injured and will soon be discharged from hospital to be taken into police custody.’

The Metropolitan Police said 30 people were picked up last night for alleged offences ranging from being drunk and disorderly to assaulting police officers.

Some 25 of the arrests were made in central London while five were in the vicinity of the stadium.

In Leicester Square, revellers were seen letting off red flares and chanting and singing.

Members of the ‘Tartan Army’ donned kilts and sang the Scottish national anthem. 

Some climbed statues while topless and were pictured waving their flags in the air.

They were also heard chanting ‘No Scotland, no party’, while others kicked around footballs. 

The game itself was a more uneventful affair, ending in a 0-0 draw.
