Joe Biden probably should have double checked his mic was off before calling calling a reporter a ‘stupid son of a b***h’.
The US President made the remark at the end of a White House press conference on Monday as journalists were being ushered out of the room.
Fox News’ Peter Doocy tried to squeeze in a last minute question about inflation, which is at a nearly 40-year high and has dented Biden’s public approval.
‘Do you think inflation is a political liability ahead of the midterms?’, he asked, to which Biden said: ‘It’s a great asset – more inflation.’
The President then shook his head and could be heard saying: ‘What a stupid son of a b**h’.
In a subsequent appearance on his network, which has been relentlessly critical of Biden, Doocy laughed it off, joking: ‘Nobody has fact-checked him yet and said it’s not true.’
‘Within about an hour of that exchange, he called my cellphone and he said, “It’s nothing personal, pal”‘, he told Fox News host Sean Hannity.

‘And we went back and forth and we were talking about just kind of moving forward, and I made sure to tell him that I’m always going to try to ask something different than what everybody else is asking.
‘And he said, “You’ve got to” – And that’s a quote from the president. So I’ll keep doing it.’
Doocy said it was a ‘nice call’ and that he ‘appreciated’ the President taking the time to ‘clear the air’ despite everything else that’s happening in the world.
The White House has insisted repeatedly that it is focused on curbing inflation, with Biden reorienting his entire economic agenda around the issue.
But the President has also shown a willingness to challenge a media that he deems to be too critical, especially Fox News and Doocy.
Joe Biden was clearly not impressed, as he called the reporter a ‘stupid son of a b**h’ (
At his news conference last week, Biden said to Doocy: ‘You always ask me the nicest questions.’
‘I have a whole binder full,’ the reporter answered, to which Biden said: ‘I know you do. None of them make a lot of sense to me. Fire away.’
Monday’s gaffe was the second time in a week that Biden, 79, was heard criticising a Fox News reporters question as people were led out of the room.
On Thursday Fox correspondent Jacqui Heinrich posed a question about the threat posed to Ukraine by Russia, asking: ‘Why are you waiting on Putin to make the first move, sir?’.
Biden then was heard saying: ‘What a stupid question.’
