Denmark reconvened at Copenhagen’s Parken Stadium, just five days on from the horrific events that saw Eriksen, 29, suffer a cardiac arrest on the pitch against Finland.

Backed by a passionate crowd, his Danish team-mates provided a spirited performance – taking a second minute lead through Yussuf Poulson.

It was clearly more than just a goal for the Danes, who emotionally celebrated the opener.

Kevin De Bruyne came off the bench to turn the game, assisting Belgium’s equaliser and scoring a brilliant winner.

But that turnaround didn’t dampen Eriksen’s spirits.

From his hospital bed around 400 yards away, the former Spurs star sung his team-mates praises on WhatsApp.

Striker Braithwaite, who hit the bar late on, revealed: “Eriksen wrote in the Whatsapp group after the game, he said we had been fantastic, I read the text on my way to the dressing room.

“We had a great start, we proved to be mentally strong. We played for Christian and the whole country.

“We felt the whole stadium around us, it was amazing.”

Eriksen has reportedly undergone a surgery to fit a cardiac implant, after his collapse last weekend was caused by ‘rhythm disturbances’ in his heart.

No decisions have yet been made on whether he will be able to resume his career, although he is set to be discharged from hospital today.

Dutch star Daley Blind, who suffers from myocarditis, a type of heart muscle inflammation, has been able to resume his career with an implant.
