It was in Acapulco 11 days ago that the pair won their third ATP title together – their first since a brief split – and the siblings celebrated with matching sombreros.

It is not known if this issue will scupper the Scousers’ chances of performing at Wimbledon in late June.

Skupski, 37, wrote on Instagram: “Just a quick update on what’s happening. I arrived home after a great trip to Mexico.

“Early Saturday I started experiencing pains in my right leg, which later got diagnosed as being a blood clot.

“I’m really disappointed but have to accept my situation and take the time necessary to recover.

“I’m looking forward to getting back playing with Neal as soon as possible.”

Meanwhile Leo Borg will have to keep ice cool like his famous dad as he chases a first professional win.

The 17-year-old Swede is the son of Wimbledon legend Bjorn Borg, 64, winner of five successive SW19 crowns.

Yet Borg Jr is enduring a hard school of knocks as he tries to step out of his father’s shadow.

Yesterday he was whacked 6-1 6-2 by Japan’s Taro Daniel in the first round of a challenger event in Marbella.

Since February 2020, Leo has lost all five matches he has played at ITF and Challenger level.

But the Swede, 18 in May, hopes to qualify for Wimbledon this summer.
