2023 has kicked off with the first teaser trailer for Payday 3, which is still slated for this year and is now confirmed for Steam.
Considering there were no updates on Payday 3’s development throughout 2022, you’d be forgiven for forgetting that it’s meant to be launching in 2023.
Developer Starbreeze Studios confirmed as such in March 2021 but, aside from a handful of details, very little is actually known about the game. It didn’t even have a trailer.
That was until New Year’s Eve when, just less than an hour until 2023, a teaser trailer was uploaded revealing fans’ first glimpse of the game and its logo.
There admittedly isn’t much, with the game’s four-man cast draped in shadows as they watch night-time fireworks go off.
However, the trailer ends with confirmation that the game is still on track for later this year, even calling 2023 ‘the year of Payday 3’.
The game is also available to wishlist on Steam, but the trailer description reiterates that Payday 3 is in development for PC and consoles.
‘We’ve seen a lot of questions about whether Payday 3 would be coming to Steam or not,’ reads a community post by Starbreeze’s head of community Almir Listo.
‘We are proud to announce that this community hub will be our primary platform on PC, just like it is for Payday 2. We love spending our time here together with you heisters, and we look forward to sharing more news and interesting details about Payday 3 as we draw closer to its release.’
As such, Listo invites fans to ask questions they have about Payday 3, although he admits that he and the team will be unable to answer all of them for the time being.
So far, all that’s known about Payday 3 is that it’s another first-person shooter all about robbing banks, just like the previous games.
While Payday 2 boasted upwards of 22 playable characters, the sequel has trimmed it down to just the original four from the first Payday, who are forced out of retirement and must pull off bank heists in New York City.
Hopefully, fans won’t have to wait too much longer for some actual gameplay footage to be shared.
Payday 3 launches for consoles and PC in 2023.
